As a comfortable person in my 30s, I’m somewhere between embracing the inevitability of aging and wanting to sell my soul in exchange for eternal youth and a portrait that I’ll gladly keep hidden in my attic. I’m working on the knots of my relationship with my changing face, but between you and me and the fine lines that are quickly forming around my eyes, it’s a struggle.
I have become a magpie for any product marketed using buzzwords such as “rejuvenating” or “anti-aging”. That’s why when I came across Maritime Naturals Retinol Moisturizer to Amazon, a product called a “facelift in a jar”, my curiosity got the better of me.
What is that?
Natural Maritimes is a Canadian company based in Nova Scotia that makes 100% organic and cruelty-free skin care products. The brand Professional retinol moisturizer contains 2.5% retinol, plant-derived hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and a variety of natural and plant oils such as glyceryl stearate SE and isopropyl palmitate.
Moisturizer, which has over 3,000 five-star reviews is recommended for all skin types. The brand suggests using as a moisturizer twice a day (morning and evening) and applying to the face, eye area, neck and décolleté (décolleté) to help minimize wrinkles, fine lines, acne, pores. and eczema.
I was reluctant to introduce retinol into my skin care routine because my previous experience with a retinol serum was drying out my skin. However, the fact that there are so many natural moisturizing ingredients (aloe and jojoba) convinced me to introduce it into my daily routine.
I started using the retinol cream twice a day as directed, introducing the moisturizer as a final step in my nighttime routine which is to wash my face at night with Cetaphil and Dermalogica Intensive Hydrating Cleanser, followed by The beauty water of the son and the park as a toner and one of my new favorite serums, the Organic beauty oil for the face by Honest Beauty. In the morning I applied the moisturizer with my sunscreen after applying two drops of vitamin C serum.
After a week of using the twice daily retinol moisturizer, I decided to cut retinol out of my morning routine after I started noticing my skin looking a bit dry. I have been using the retinol cream at night for three weeks, and although I haven’t noticed a drastic change in the fine lines around my eyes, I have noticed that my complexion has improved, making the discoloration under my eyes and the appearance of pores. around my nose less visible when I’m not wearing makeup.
What others say
Before making my purchase, I decided to check out what other Amazon buyers had to say about retinol moisturizer. Many reviews of women have given Maritime Rituals credit for improving the appearance of their skin in general. The Daily Moisturizer currently has over 6,100 customer reviews on Amazon and a respectable 4.3-star rating.
Amazon customers said that after a few months of use, they began to see improvement in their “skin tone and texture”.
“The curl has decreased,” said an Amazon buyer, adding that her skin looked “smoother.”
Others said they were “addicted” to Maritime Naturals products and received many compliments on their skin from friends.
“It really works if you keep going,” they wrote.
While there are many positive reviews online, many buyers have warned that too much retinol can make the skin very dry. Others have said that the cream is heavy compared to other retinol creams and may not be the best for very sensitive skin.
If you’re worried about an allergic reaction or a potential rash, do a small skin test on clean skin, like your forearm or the side of your neck. Be sure to wait 24 hours to rule out any delayed reaction. This can help prevent uncomfortable reactions to the rest of your face or body. If no reaction occurs after the patch test, you should be able to safely use the product as directed on your face without any issues.
Although I did not feel the effect of a “facelift in a jar,” I think the Maritime Naturals Retinol Moisturizer is a great option for anyone looking for a vegan, cruelty-free skin care product that won’t break the bank. My skin is hydrated, soft and the improved complexion was an unexpected but welcome result that was enough to make the purchase worthy of interest.
If you are looking to really Go back in time on your skin, my advice would be to explore your options with a dermatologist and develop a routine that fits your skin care goals and budget.
However, if you’re comfortable with using retinol products, Maritime Naturals is definitely an affordable option, especially now when it’s on sale.
